National Signs has been the primary provider of face shield PPE for several hospitals, nursing homes, first responders, school districts, and other essential businesses since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.
Specifically, in Texas, we pivoted our production equipment, materials, and expertise to become a meaningful responder in the state’s fight against COVID-19. We continue to proudly provide our valued clients with life-saving PPE to help them manage warehouse utilization strains caused by massive PPE inventory requirements. Here’s how it all started.
How We Began Creating Face Shield PPE
When the pandemic surfaced in the United States, everyone in the country was on edge. Disinfectants and face masks were flying off the shelves. Everyone was concerned with the lack of PPE available, especially when it came to front-line and healthcare workers.
When the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Texas was announced in March 2020, the leadership team at National Signs immediately got to work discussing what the company could do to help out. The first thing that came to mind was, “Couldn’t we use our facility to manufacture face shields?”
This really hit home for National Signs CEO Cody Johnson. He was especially motivated to make face shields due to a shortage of PPE at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital, where his brother, James Johnson, was helping to run a COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
Our innovative team was able to come together to figure out the best way to re-engineer our facility’s equipment in order to produce face shields.
The amount of time from the initial discussion of creating the face shield PPE to the prototype being completed was only about three hours. Getting that prototype into full production? Only 24 hours! Before we knew it, the employees at National Signs were starting to manufacture thousands of face shields each day.
How We’ve Supported Healthcare with COVID-19 PPE

Since the start of the pandemic, National Signs has been able to improve manufacturing and pricing for face shields. This has caused an even bigger spike in interest from organizations and businesses all across the country.
